Selecting a Web
Host
Now that you’ve chosen and registered a domain, you’re ready to select your web host. As I said in the previous section (Registering a Domain Name) a hosting company is like the landlord to your shops building. He looks after any nitty gritty maintenance like plumbing or electricity. The host provider makes sure your sites loading properly and all the other stuff I don’t understand.
The hosting company I use is Dreamhost, and I also register my domains here because they offer it for free if you sign up to their hosting service. There are other companies out there like this which also offer great services, like Website Palace.
Website Palace does offer plenty of cool extras and I probably would’ve hosted with them if I hadn’t of stumbled across Dreamhost first. Either way they’re both worth looking at because they have a lot to offer. The choice is yours.
How Does Web Hosting Work?
Essentially what a web host does is provide space for your websites files on their server. They will no doubt have a very quick internet connection, so that if any of your pages are requested (by an internet surfer) they will be provided quickly and efficiently.
However what it is you’re really paying for is the decent customer services. So if there is some sort of problem with the website if it is requested (which there no doubt will be at some point) it can be rectified straight away. The sites I have recommended both have perfect customer services. Their services do cost money (somewhere in the region of $15 per month, but it is a sound investment to avoid future difficulties.
The Problem With Web Hosts
Web hosts are great because they give you good customer service, an email name (info@increaseyourpaydays.com), a place to put your website etc etc…. but none of that stuff is actually going to make your website a success. At the end of the day, as long as you’re still paying your monthly subscription, they don’t care how well your site does.
So you get all that cool stuff they provide plus a “good luck” then you’re on your own.
But there are people out there who offer more….
Site Build It! is an all in one solution. You register your domain with them, host your domain with them, build your actual website with them and use they’re tools and guides to drive traffic to your site.
They take you through every single step to building a successful online business. And that is the difference. With normal web hosts they give you a place to put a site, with Site Build It! they give you absolutely everything.
I know that building a website from scratch can be a very daunting thing. If I had known about something like SBI when I first started out it would’ve been one of my first purchases.
Select One....
Those are your web hosting options. I still use the traditional format but I’ll probably be integrating my site into an SBI account, to take full advantage of their traffic building software.
The next section we’ll be looking at the tools you’ll ned to actually build your website.
