Building Your Site

What do You need?

There are quite a few different ways to create a website from scratch. It isn’t actually a difficult task at all these days because of the software available.

5 – 10 years ago building sites was only really possible for people who had a good knowledge of html and css but now things have changed and it’s probably one of the easiest and most enjoyable phases of creating an online business.

The Free Option

A great application for first timers is
NVU. It’s a really basic editor and doesn’t give you particularly great web pages but it’s a free download and is awesome for getting to know the basics of using an editor. There are other free options that are very similar to NVU. Some of you might already have the Microsoft Frontpage software which works in a very similar way.

You can visit the NVU website here to download it.

If you do download
NVU then go to www.thesitewizard.com for tutorials on just about every feature it has. They have good video walkthroughs and some cool tips….. and again, it’s all free. NVU won’t build you an amazing site but it’s a good place to learn.

The Cheaper Option

This is the software I used to build this site. It’s called
Rapidweaver and costs about $50. Like I said in the title it is the cheaper option but it provides a very professional look and feel. It’s all an incredibly simple process using Rapidweaver and it’s all explained in video tutorials on their home site. You could easily create a great looking site in about an hour (obviously with no content).

They have hundreds of different templates and layouts that you simply plug your writing and content into. Check out the video below.

But the only problem is that
Rapidweaver is only for Mac. I did some searching to find a PC equivalent and the closest thing I could find is Web Easy Pro. Apparently it’s fairly similar to the Rapidweaver software, so it might be worth looking into.

You can buy Rapidweaver through this link.

And Web Easy Pro through this link.

More Expensive Option

Dreamweaver is easily the best equipped web design software. It’s fairly simple to use and offers so much more than the products I’ve mentioned so far. However it costs $399. This is by far the most expensive, but people rate it very highly. I would only really suggest buying Dreamweaver if you want to get into serious web design.

If you’re trying to create a website like the one I’ve made here, then don’t bother with it. Just stick to the basics and focus on content.

All in One

As I mentioned in the last section (Selecting a Web Host) there is the option of having all of your website building and hosting with one company
Site Build It!

The site building tools on
SBI aren’t as extensive as those on Rapidweaver or Dreamweaver, but they provide you with easily enough options to create a nice looking site.

The benefit of using
SBI isn’t for creating pretty sites. The benefit is having a team of people that will help you the entire way to creating a successful web business. If you take a look at the Selecting a Web Host section I’ve also left a quick video on SBI. You can click here to go through to the Site Build It! website.

Now it’s just down to you to make a choice.
