Becoming an Affiliate



Becoming an affiliate marketer is simple. If you’re ever on a website for some sort of product, have a search around for a link or tab that says “affiliates” or “affiliate program”. They’re beginning to pop up everywhere on the web because people are seeing the potential to make money.

That is one way of becoming an affiliate marketer. Search for a particular product, that you feel you know a lot about, and look for an affiliate program page on their website. You could also just do a search a google like “(product name) affiliate program”.

Any pages that you find should give you detailed instructions on how to sign up. They will then give you a link that you can post on your website (if you have one), in an article you’ve written or even in a post on a forum. If someone clicks through this link and buys the product, you earn your commission.


Affiliate Networks

The other way of becoming an affiliate is by joining an affiliate network. An affiliate network is a company that acts as a middle man between you and the people selling the products.

The main benefit of a network is that once you’re a member, you can promote any of the products they have. This could be thousands of different products. Plus, it’s all done from the same place so it’s a lot easier.

Don’t worry about any fees, most networks don’t charge anything to become a member. The networks make their money by taking a small commission from every sale they make.


Who I use

I actually use more than one affiliate network because I try to find specific products and they tend to be signed up to lots of different people. The three main ones are:

  • Clickbank – the first affiliate network I ever signed up for. I don’t know if they’re as good as the others but they’ve always paid on time and provide decent customer service.
  • Commission Junction – these guys are for the hardcore affiliates. They have special benefits for the guys earning massive amounts.
  • Pepperjam Network – the fastest growing network around. They offer awesome commissions and really good customer service.

There are plenty more affiliate networks out there. All you need to do is a simple google search to find them.


Getting Paid

Payment comes in different ways depending on who you’re signed up with.

Payment into a paypal account is very popular, or by check. Some offer debit payments or vouchers with their company (like amazon).

Be aware that if you make a commission you won’t just get paid immediately. Most companies will have a payout date each month. And they also won’t payout unless you’ve managed to make it to a certain threshold, like $100.
