SEO
What Is SEO?
SEO stands for search engine optimization. It is the process of manipulating the content on your webpage, so that you will rank higher in the search engines. This is a huge factor in making money online, because it controls how much traffic (and therefore conversions) your website will get.
SEO involves using “keyword phrases” in the sites content and html code, so that the search engines can see that a site is relevant to a certain subject. So when people search for those keywords, the site will be one of the ones listed (be it near the top or bottom). Whether the site is near the top of the search engines list depends on a few factors that I go into in more depth later. Things like:
- Keyword density
- Linking with other sites
- The number of other relevant pages in the site
- Other related keywords on the site (longtail)
Technically using SEO tips has nothing to do with making money online. However it is the key way for a webmaster to get people to see his website. It is from he
re that he uses the traffic to make money.
The simple idea of SEO is that search engines have specific data that they search for when scanning sites. If they get plenty of this data, they rank that website high up for certain keyword relevance. When these keywords are typed in to the search engine by an average Joe, that website appears near the top of the list, and gets the bulk of the free web traffic.
It may seem quite simple, but using SEO tools can be difficult, and it needs to implemented throughout the entire construction of a website. The amount of competition for top spots on certain keywords can be enormous. So SEO is a very widely documented subject, but still there are very few who know the true secrets behind what the search engines look for exactly. But with testing and common sense, SEO has been created to help people use search engines as a very powerful marketing weapon.
An Example
A man decides to write a book about body building because it is his passion. But no one wants to publish his book, so he decides to create a website instead. He creates pages for different areas of body building and provides lots of quality content. He even has a blog and a page about himself. However he’s not getting the visitors in crowds like he imagined.
He hears about some SEO tools . He then does a search using a keyword tool, to find what phrases within bodybuilding people are searching for. He finds the following keywords:
- body building
- body building supplements
- body building diet
- women body building
- body building routines
- body building workouts
- body building forums
So, he uses some SEO tips and applies them to his site’s content. After he’s done this he begins to rank well for each of the above keyword phrases, which get hundreds of searches each. Now he gets thousands of visitors per day. He then starts to use advertisements on his site and affiliate links, which makes him his money.
Take a look at the other sections within SEO that are found at the top and bottom of this page. I go into specific detail about applying SEO tools to your site, with back linking and keyword research. I also provide a case study of the SEO tips guru Arden Michael Blum, who pioneered many of the techniques we use on this site.
